'Star Wars 8' plot news, release date update 2016: Movie to reveal Rey's parents
With seven films under its belt, the "Star Wars" franchise has told some pretty exciting adventures through the years. However, fans still have a plethora of questions about the films. Perhaps one of the most recent queries has to do with Rey's (Daisy Ridley) parentage.
The upcoming "Star Wars: Episode 8" film will reveal who Rey's parents are. In an interview with Vulture, Ridley confirmed that fans of the franchise will get to know more about the latest heroine in the upcoming film. When the publication asked the actress if Jyn from the upcoming spin-off "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" is her mother, it seemed as if she had never considered the possibility. The actress pondered on the "Star Wars" timeline before giving her answer.
She told the news outlet, "I mean, I think historically it wouldn't work, because she is ... Darth Vader is there, so she would ultimately be my great-grandma." She added, "No. She would be my grandma. I mean it could happen, especially in a galaxy far, far away," she added.
The eighth installment of the franchise will have a rather different tone compared to "The Force Awakens." Adam Driver, who portrays Star Wars baddie Kylo Ren, previously teased the details. According to the actor, the upcoming tone of the film will be more similar to "The Empire Strikes Back."
As for the rest of the questions that have yet to be answered, Disney will be launching multiple spin-off films, including a Han Solo one, to shed some light on the well-loved characters of the show. "Rogue One," which features Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso, will be the first spin-off film to launch.
"Star Wars: Episode 8" is expected to launch on Dec. 15, 2017. Meanwhile, "Rogue One" will hit the big screen this Dec. 16.
