'Star Wars: Battlefront' gameplay news 2016: Upcoming sequel to have single-player campaign mode; EA responds to negative feedback from players
"Star Wars: Battlefront" may have a single-player campaign mode when the game's anticipated sequel drops next year.
Following its 2015 launch, "Star Wars: Battlefront" received mixed reviews due to its stunning visual quality but lack of new content to keep fans interested. Most fans were disappointed because there wasn't a single-player campaign mode in the game, but EA promises that things will be somewhat different when the sequel arrives.
Speaking at an investor event this week, EA VP of investor relations Chris Evenden said the dev teams working on the Battlefront sequel are well-aware of that feedback.
"Certainly, we heard the feedback," he said during Wednesday's Barclays Global Technology, Media, and Telecommunications conference. "There we some comments around depth and single-player campaign. So we are aware of that feedback...but I wouldn't want to announce exactly how we've acted on that," he went on to say.
Event though Evenden didn't want to reveal how they made those improvements, DICE producer Paul Keslin confirmed that the sequel will definitely introduce the missing campaign mode. "Myself as a Star Wars fan, I want story, I want narrative, I want something I can play that immerses me in that world but gives me something to follow and chase," Keslin explained.
In the original "Star Wars: Battlefront," wave-based survival was the only single-player content, which can also be played cooperatively. Although taking down waves of Stormtroopers was a thrill for gamers, it became monotonous even just after a few rounds. Keslin revealed that DICE is teaming up with people from Motive Studios, but he didn't mention what part of the game Motive is working on.
Despite what some might have thought about the game, "Star Wars: Battlefront" was still a hugely successful title as more than 14 million copies were shipped as of writing.
Developed by EA DICE and published by Electronic Arts, "Star Wars Battlefront" is available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Microsoft Windows PC. Its latest "Rogue One" DLC is currently accessible to season pass holders.
