'Star Wars: Episode 8' cast rumors, spoilers: Details about Laura Dern, Benicio del Toro, Kelly Marie Tran roles revealed?
The upcoming "Star Wars: Episode 8" is being kept tightly under wraps but details about the film's new characters may have nonetheless leaked.
This week, "Star Wars" fan site Making Star Wars came out with a report about the actors making their way to the "Star Wars" sequel trilogy and the new characters they are supposedly playing.
Making Star Wars said that Laura Dern is playing a character described as "aristocratic and fancy." This character is reportedly unlike anyone seen in the "Star Wars" universe and may call to mind "The Hunger Games" (2012) character Effie Trinket, with her colorful hair and elaborate gowns. Interestingly, the website added that Dern will sport pink hair in the film, as Effie did at some point in "The Hunger Games."
According to the website, Benecio del Toro, who has been rumored to play a villain in "Episode 8," could be playing a "dangerous" "man in black." While del Toro has previously made ambiguous comments about whether or not he is playing a bad guy in the film, Making Star Wars said his character isn't viewed by the film's heroes as a bad guy. Rather, he may be playing someone akin to Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams) from the original trilogy.
As for Kelly Marie Tran, the website stated that the character will be dressed very simply and that her role is closely associated with Finn (John Boyega). Making Star Wars continued that this character's situation is "really cool" but that not much is known about her as of now.
Meanwhile, "Star Wars" star Mark Hamill, who has played the role of Luke Skywalker since the '70s, recently spoke to Polygon about the extremely secretive nature of the "Episode 8" production and the steps taken by the cast and crew to make sure that details about the film are not leaked.
"Man, I can't say anything about anything," the actor said. "It's like working for the CIA," he added.
"You get your pages in the morning, and they take them from you as you walk so they can shred them before it somehow leaks," he added. "You have security lines you have to walk through, both to and from set. And, not to mention, you have to wear these big monk hoods to protect your costume from drones," Hamill quipped.
"Star Wars: Episode 8" will hit theaters on Dec. 15, 2017.
