In the absence of official details about the upcoming and hotly anticipated "Star Wars: Episode 8," various fan theories have been popping up left and right.

One of these is that Benicio del Toro, whose "Episode 8" character remains unnamed, could be playing an anti-hero and not a villain, as many have suggested. According to some, the character could spend a lot of time with the villain Kylo Ren (Adam Driver).

But in an interview with Entertainment Tonight last year, del Toro was purposely ambiguous about the nature of his "Episode 8" character. "I don't know if he's a villain," the actor told ET at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival. "People are saying that, but it's like they read a different script than I read," he continued.

"It's nice to keep people in the dark, a little bit of mystery is good," he added. "If they want to believe it's the villain, then good," del Toro said.

According to Citizen Oracle, the new theory about del Toro's role indicates the actor will play neither a member of the Resistance nor that of the First Order. Rather, he could be the leader of a small group that distrusts the First Order but is dubious of the Resistance.

In the film, his character could either side with the Resistance and aid them in their campaign against the First Order or turn on the Resistance and ally himself with the First Order. Should the latter play out, del Toro's character could emerge as the villain in "Star Wars: Episode 9."

Meanwhile, a new video by YouTuber Mike Zeroh has revealed what may or may not be spoilers from a scene involving Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in "Episode 8." This scene, which was reportedly filmed in Ireland, is said to show the extent of the Jedi Master's new powers. In it, Luke is meditating on a big rock, which then levitates. Locals from the Ireland shooting location apparently reported about this key scene, saying that the rock wobbled as it rose.

According to Zeroh, Luke could be looking back into the past as he meditates. Because Rey (Daisy Ridley) is reportedly not in this scene, the YouTuber suggested that this is a flashback similar to the one in "Star Wars: Episode 7 - The Force Awakens" (2015).

"Star Wars: Episode 8" premieres Dec. 15, 2017.
