"Star Wars: Episode 8" star Daisy Ridley has confirmed that the upcoming film will reveal the truth about Rey's parents.

The identities of Rey's parents is one of the biggest mysteries about the main protagonist of "The Force Awakens" (2015). Since the blockbuster hit came out, fans have been speculating that Rey could be the daughter of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) or Luke's mentor, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor). There are also theories that she could be related to Han Solo (Harrison Ford) or that her parents are "Star Wars" characters fans have yet to see on the big screen.

But the fact that Rey has Force powers and that Luke's lightsaber called out to her has been taken to mean that she is related to one (or more) of the franchise's main characters.

In a recent interview with Vulture, Ridley assured fans that they won't have to wait too long for the answer to this captivating mystery. When asked about the possibility of Rey being related to Obi-Wan, Ridley said: "We will see in a year. Just sit tight on that question."

As Vulture noted, Rey's clothing in "The Force Awakens" was similar to those of Kenobi's in the previous "Star Wars" films. Like the Jedi master who mentored both Luke and Anakin Skywalker (Jake Lloyd and Hayden Christensen), Rey also loves solitude and is adept at both lightsabers and Jedi mind tricks.

"Episode 8," which has not been officially titled, wrapped up filming earlier this year and is currently in pre-production. Before it debuts, however, the "Star Wars" spinoff "Rogue One," which centers on Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and a group tasked with stealing the plans for the first Death Star, will premiere in December.

Since the first trailer for "Rogue One" came out, another theory about Rey's parentage has been proposed: that Jyn is Rey's mother.

Speaking with Yahoo!, Ridley said that she hasn't really considered this possibility. "I don't know," she said. "That'll be interesting when I see [Rogue One]. But I don't watch things and think in that way. So I think I'm just gonna watch it and be blown away," she added.

In her interview with Vulture, the actress considered the "Star Wars" timeline and concluded that if Rey and Jyn were, indeed, related, the latter would have to be the former's grandmother.

"I mean, I think historically it wouldn't work, because she is ... Darth Vader is there ... so she would ultimately be my great-grandma; no, she would be my grandma," Ridley said.

"I mean it could happen, especially in a galaxy far, far away," she concluded.

"Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" hits theaters Dec. 16.

"Star Wars: Episode 8" arrives Dec. 15, 2017.
