'Star Wars: Episode 8' release date, plot news: Adam Driver gushes about Rian Johnson's 'remarkable' script
Adam Driver once again spoke about "Star Wars Episode 8," this time gushing about the work that director Rian Johnson did on the film.
During an interview with The Daily Beast, the actor had nothing but kind words to say about Johnson, calling him a "brilliant filmmaker."
"And he wrote the script also, and he understands the importance of ambiguity and nuance. He wrote something that I think is remarkable," he went on to say about Johnson's stroke of genius in "Star Wars: Episode 8."
A couple of months ago, Driver, who will return as villain Kylo Ren in the upcoming film, compared "Star Wars: Episode 8" with "Star Wars: Episode 5 — The Empire Strikes Back" during a Collider interview.
"It's great. It's similar to how The Empire Strikes Back has a different tone," adding that while it will give fans the impression that it is dark, "I don't know that it necessarily is. It's just different in tone in a way that I think is great and necessary but also very clear," the actor explained.
In an interview with Vanity Fair, he clarified his remarks as they were understood that "Star Wars: Episode 8" will be like "Empire Strikes Back" since "Star Wars Episode 7: The Force Awakens" was very similar to "Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope" anyway.
"No, no, and that's not even what I said. What I said was the tone of it was different, I didn't say that it was gonna be in the vein of [it]," the actor explained.
"I was using it as an example, so poor example. Next time I should say — I'm trying to think of another sequel to a movie that's good. When I read the script, it was not what I expected, in the best of ways," he went on to say.
Fans won't hear about "Star Wars: Episode 8" until spring next year as Disney gives the recently released standalone film, "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," some breathing room.
"Star Wars: Episode 8" will hit the theaters on Dec. 15, 2017.
