Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) could take his Darth Vader obsession up a notch and Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) may be too powerful to wield a lightsaber in the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode 8."

According to recent reports, costume changes are in store for these two main characters and their outfits may reveal some juicy details about their capabilities in the new "Star Wars" story.

"Star Wars: Episode 7 - The Force Awakens" (2015) showed that Kylo, the Master of the Knights of Ren, had a strong allegiance to Darth Vader, his grandfather and Dark Side role model. But the upcoming "Star Wars: Episode 8" will reportedly see the villain taking his obsession one step further. Apart from having somehow acquired Vader's old melted helmet in "The Force Awakens," Kylo will reportedly also get his hands on one of the Sith Lord's old capes.

According to Making Star Wars, sources claim that Kylo will wear a Darth Vader cape in "Episode 8." This cape is said to be similar to or is the exact same cape that Vader wore in "The Empire Strikes Back" (1980) and in "Return of the Jedi" (1983). The fan site says that it is not entirely clear if Kylo somehow procured one of Vader's old capes or if he had one made to resemble them. But because he was able to find his late grandfather's scorched helmet, it seems likely that he could have also found the cape, perhaps from a collector in the Star Wars galaxy.

Either way, it looks like Kylo Ren is due for a costume change in "Star Wars: Episode 8," just like his uncle and former mentor Luke.

Last week, Making Star Wars reported that while Luke was wearing a white robe-like garment with a gray hood at the end of "The Force Awakens," he will wear much darker clothes in "Episode 8." The fan site says that Luke will enter the upcoming film as a hardened teacher and that he will train Rey (Daisy Ridley) fiercely until they come face-to-face with Kylo on Ahch-To.

For "Episode 8," Luke is said to wear clothes in shades of gray, much like his clothing in "Return of the Jedi." The report also says that instead of a lightsaber, Luke will use some kind of staff during Rey's training.

Making Star Wars adds that Luke may not use a lightsaber in the film at all and that the Jedi may have abandoned the weapon after the deaths of his padawans and after having lost Kylo to the Dark Side.

Alternatively, there are also talks that Luke may have grown so powerful that, like the Emperor, he no longer needs to use a weapon.

"Star Wars: Episode 8" comes out in theaters on Dec. 14, 2017.
