'Star Wars Episode 8: The Last Jedi' news, rumors: Rey's identity to be revealed in upcoming film?
Various rumors are now floating around about the upcoming "Star Wars" film. Not surprisingly, most of these speculations are centered on Rey (Daisy Ridley), the scavenger-turned-reluctant Force wielder in "Star Wars: The Force Awakens."
One rumor floating around about Rey's character is that she is actually blood-related to the Skywalkers, which is why she was described on StarWars.com as someone who has a "strange" and "mysterious" connection with Kylo Ren (Adam Driver). Some are speculating that she is a long-lost daughter of Luke (Mark Hamill), who appeared at the end of "The Force Awakens."
What is confirmed about the plot so far is that its title, "The Last Jedi," does not refer to a single Jedi, so it is possible that fans of the franchise will see more of them in the next film. At the very least, fans will be able to see Rey and Luke, who are expected to have a mentee–mentor relationship, similar to what the latter had with Yoda in "The Empire Strikes Back."
Another thing that viewers can expect from the upcoming "Star Wars" film is that it will provide more details about the characters. In an interview with Larry King, Driver said that his character's "humanity" will be looked into in the upcoming flick. Similarly, Rian Johnson, who wrote and directed the upcoming installment to the film series, said that the movie will also provide flashbacks about Rey's past, which can provide a clue about her ancestry and why she became a scavenger.
Hamill and the late Carrie Fischer will also have more screen time in the upcoming film compared to "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." The latter shot all of her scenes prior to her death. On another note, the former denied that his character will be killed off in episode 8, amidst rumors after he announced that he will be jobless at the end of the film. Hamill responded to fans on Twitter, saying that he will be "out of work" because the shooting ended.
