Star Wars Spin-Off News: Bloodline's Ben Mendelsohn to Join 'Rogue One'
The executives behind Lucasfilm and Disney's "Star Wars: Rogue One" are reportedly seriously considering Ben Mendelsohn to join the cast of the standalone movie.
Variety still cannot confirm whether the rising Australian actor has already received the offer but it cited sources, saying his name was circulating among the execs.
Disney has yet to comment on Mendelsohn's possible casting but it has confirmed getting Garreth Edwards to star in the Star Wars spin-off whose plot is still being kept under wraps.
Mendelsohn won raves for his performance on "Bloodline," a series that debuted on Netflix last week.
After playing strong supporting roles in movies like "Animal Kingdom" and "Killing Them Softly," Mendelsohn showed promise as a lead actor with his critically acclaimed performance as Jack O'Connell's father in the prison drama "Starred UP."
He also exceeded expectation opposite Ryan Reynolds in "Mississippi Grind," which recently premiered at Sundance.
Meanwhile, Screen Crush said "Star Wars" Rogue One might feature the franchise's first gay character.
Citing unconfirmed reports from Cinelinx, it said that Moff Mors will be one of the characters featured in the upcoming film following her debut in the upcoming novel "Lords of the Sith."
Mors is described as a very talented Imperial leader with a troubled past, who just happens to be a lesbian – a sexual preference that did not define her character.
Paul S. Kemp's "Lords of the Sith" hits the shelves on April 28. "Star Wars: Rogue One" is up for screening in theaters on Dec. 16 next year.
