Steam Summer Sale 2016 dates rumors: Leak could reveal dates; gamers awaiting confirmation from Valve
Every summer, gamers anticipate that one special event dubbed Steam Summer Sale where they can enjoy huge discounts on hundreds of video games that are on the Steam catalogue. And the dates of the sales for this year may have just been revealed.
On Reddit, a user going by the name MrFreemanBBQ posted a screen cap of supposedly confidential information bearing the duration of Steam Summer Sale, which will be from June 23 to July 4.
This may be false information, but according to gaming enthusiasts, MrFreemanBBQ is the one who has also leaked last year's sales dates which turned out to be correct. He also leaked the schedule of Summer Sale 2012 and that of Holiday Sale 2013 ahead of game development and distribution company Valve's official announcement. Thus, these grant the tipster a fairly good track record relating to inside information. However, there is a slim chance that this leak may be a reason for Valve to alter the dates should it decide to surprise its users.
In 2015, PayPal was responsible for an early announcement of the dates of the Winter Sale. A promotional image shared by the website mentioned the start of the Winter Sale ahead of Valve's confirmation.
In the meantime, gamers will want to stay on the lookout for any announcements from Valve itself with regards to the definitive dates of the Summer Sale, and especially for a confirmation from the company that the sales event will actually occur even though it has been a tradition for quite some time now.
Steam Summer Sale 2015 offered a variety of titles whose prices were dropped up to 95 per cent. There was also an interactive community game wherein Steam users could compete against each other for chances of winning even more extra discounts. Whether or not this social game will be repeated this year is uncertain.
