'Steven Universe' season 3 spoilers, release date: debut in July?
With June drawing to a close, fans of the popular Cartoon Network animated series "Steven Universe" are wondering when its third season, which was expected to begin airing this month, will arrive.
In May, Cartoon Network served up a series of "Steven Universe" episodes as part of a limited event titled "In Too Deep." The short run, which consisted of six "Steven Universe" episodes, was to be followed by the show's third season, which was said to air from June to August this year. This period was dubbed the "Summer of Steven."
Unlike the "In Too Deep" limited run, "Steven Universe" episodes will reportedly be dropped on a weekly basis during the "Summer of Steven."
Earlier this year, Entertainment Weekly broke the news that "Steven Universe," along with Cartoon Network show "Uncle Grandpa," had been renewed. This meant that Steven and the Crystal Gems will be on air for a good long while, as the network had renewed "Steven Universe" for both seasons 4 and 5.
But after "Steven Universe" aired its final episode, "Steven Floats," on May 22 in France, details about the upcoming third season have been hard to come by. Nonetheless, because "Steven Floats" has yet to air in the U.S., fans are hoping that there is still a possibility of season 3 airing this summer.
Reports now claim that "Steven Universe" season 3 could debut in July.
For now, fans will have to make do with the various teasers and screenshots rumored to have come from the upcoming season 3. Recently, a promo clip titled "Too Short to Ride" dropped on YouTube and is now making the rounds on the internet.
Meanwhile, though "Steven Universe" fans are growing frustrated over the lack of updates about the show, AV Club suggested that holding back details and releasing episodes on a very irregular schedule is just the show's response to the current trend of binge-watching series.
The official release date for "Steven Universe" season 3 has yet to be announced.
