'Stranger Things' season 2 release date, latest news: Cast member David Harbour teases new detail on upcoming season
The second season of the hit Netflix series "Stranger Things" Is officially underway, and fans have been eager to learn more details about the upcoming season's development. During the cast's panel onboard the Fan2Sea Comic Con cruise last Jan. 21, cast member David Harbour obliged the fans by dropping a few spoilers about the forthcoming season of the show.
It was previously announced that "Stranger Things" season 2 will introduce new cast members, which include Sean Astin, Paul Reiser, and Linnea Berthelsen. Not much was previously known about Astin's role aside from being a former classmate of Hopper (Harbour) and Joyce (Winona Ryder). However, during the panel at Fan2Sea Comic Con, Harbour teased more about Astin's role.
"We have Sean Astin... he's Winona's new boyfriend – much to the chagrin to the Chief of Police," Harbour said during the panel, according to Hollywood Life.
Although unable to delve into the specifics, Harbour also teased a bit more about what to expect in the upcoming season of "Stranger Things."
"It's a year later in the story, so there are several things that happened last year — like Will has come back — there are certain people in the town that know what happened, and then certain people that don't know what happened," Harbour told the audience at Fan2Sea. "So there's a lot of fall out with who knows what," he added.
Aside from Harbour, the panel also included fellow cast members Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Shannon Purser, Randall Havens, and Catherine Dyer. Art director Bill Davis was also present at the panel.
According to Screen Crush, shooting for "Stranger Things" season 2 will take place in Atlanta starting in April, in time for a summer premiere. The season will begin in the fall of 1984, with creators Matt and Ross Duffer teasing that the upcoming episodes will be influenced by James Cameron's work.
"Stranger Things" season 2 is expected to air sometime in the summer of 2017 on Netflix.
