'Stranger Things' season 2 release date, latest news: Upcoming season to explore Will's visions of the Upside Down
"Stranger Things" season 2 won't be arriving until the end of October. Although that is still a few months ahead into the future, Entertainment Weekly has recently shared some new details about the upcoming return of Netflix's hit series.
The storyline for the "Stranger Things" season 2 will reportedly reveal more about Will Byer's visions of the Upside Down.
"He seems to be seeing images from the Upside Down—the question is whether they're real or not," says co-creator Matt Duffer. "So it seems like he's having some sort of post-traumatic stress disorder," he added.
It was also previously revealed that Joyce (Winona Ryder) will have a new love interest in season 2, with the casting of Sean Astin as her old high school classmate Bob. A new brother–sister pair will also be arriving in the strange city. Played by Dacre Montgomery and Sadie Sink, respectively, Billy is a new antagonist to the boys while Max is set to be a new love interest for both Lucas and Dustin.
Chief of Police Him Hopper (David Harbour) will also be preoccupied in "Stranger Things" season 2 as he tries to maintain the secrecy of the events that happened in season 1.
"It kind of falls on Hopper to be the voice of authority to say, 'This did happen and this didn't happen,'" Harbour said. "He's struggling with the compromise that takes him to, having to lie and cover things up," he added.
A new man will also be in charge of the city's mysterious laboratory, known by the name Dr. Owens (Paul Reiser). On the other hand, Dustin will also have a new pet who is not from Planet Earth.
As for what happened to Eleven after the events of the season 1 finale, it is confirmed that her character will return, and she will remain as a major character of "Stranger Things" season 2. The upcoming season will be focusing on her backstory, and fans will get to know new information about where she really came from and how she became the powerful superhuman being that she is.
As reported by Coming Soon, "Stranger Things" season 2 will premiere in Halloween 2017 and is set a year after Will's return.
