'Street Fighter 5' updates: Capcom to support game until 2020; new mod brings 'Overwatch's' Sombra to game
"Street Fighter 5" will be around for quite a long time as Capcom has pledged its support for the new fighting game to span half a decade.
"It's not just a 1-2 year thing. We're looking pretty far ahead... We've planned out as far as 2020 or so," executive producer Yoshinori Ono told Famitsu (translated by Event Hubs) of their commitment to the game.
"Street Fighter 5 is a title we're adding on to as it goes along, so we're working on it while planning ahead on the best way to develop it further," Ono's co-producer Tomoaki Ayano added.
Capcom also appears to be focused on making "Street Fighter 5" a well-established eSports title before they completely move on to other projects.
This is what Ono said when asked about the idea of releasing a brand new game that is not "Street Fighter. He said that while he would be "happy" to, their priority is for "Street Fighter 5" to earn more entrants.
"I said in the beginning that we've seen a higher number of entrants than we had in the Street Fighter 4 era, but we'd like to heighten that even further."
"The more people participate, the bigger tournaments we can host, and the more people are going to watch them, which is directly connected with our sales, and that's going to decide the future," he added.
Fans hope that more downloadable content (DLC) will be released for "Street Fighter 5." Some are already waiting for the second season DLC from Capcom, which is yet to be confirmed. Fighters are hoping to see more fighters on the roster as well.
While no new DLC is coming at the moment, fans can get a load of a mod by THEJAMK, which brought Sombra from "Overwatch" to the "Street Fighter 5" stage.
He did so by tweaking the skins of Laura, who has the same hairstyle as the "Overwatch" favorite and was even the inspiration for the character.
