'Street Fighter V' updates, news details: Capcom to continue game support until 2020, focused on making it an eSports title
Fans of Capcom's fighting video game, "Street Fighter V," should expect more upcoming content and in-game updates as its executive producer confirmed that they plan to continue support for the game up to 2020.
In an interview, "Street Fighter V's" executive producer Yoshinori Ono shared: "It's [game support] not just a 1–2 year thing. We're looking pretty far ahead ... We've planned out as far as 2020 or so."
Producer Tomoaki Ayano also added that the team is working hard on the title — working and developing new content for it at the same time in order to further improve the game. In the meantime, however, Capcom's focus is about establishing "Street Fighter V" as an eSports game.
"First, we'd have to solidify Street Fighter V as an eSports title. I said in the beginning that we've seen a higher number of entrants than we had in the Street Fighter IV era, but we'd like to heighten that even further," Ono explained when asked if whether or not Capcom is releasing a new game title.
Last week, Nov. 23, Capcom announced that they decided to drop the downloadable content (DLC) expansion titled "Skies of Honor" in tournament mode for both Capcom Cup 2016 and 2017 because it was considered too distracting.
The DLC places the fighting characters out on the wings of a moving airplane — making it a very dynamic stage, but Capcom later decided that the setting is not exactly tournament friendly.
In other news, a YouTube user with the username TheJamk issued a mod in which the "Overwatch" character, Sombra, can be playable in "Street Fighter V."
Players should be cautioned however that the mod-induced addition of Sombra replaces "Street Fighter V's" very own Laura. Essentially, the mod works through reskinning Laura to make her appear as Sombra.
"Street Fighter V" is available on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
