'Supergirl' season 2 cast news, spoilers: Chris Wood to play Mon-El; musical crossover with 'The Flash' scheduled for S2
Following the confirmation that "Supergirl" newbie Chris Wood will be playing the role of the Kryptonian pod's mystery passenger in the upcoming season, The CW has now revealed more about the character.
At the Television Critics Associaton's (TCA) press tour last week, The CW confirmed that Wood will be playing the role of Mon-El in "Supergirl" season 2.
As fans recall, the first season of "Supergirl" ended on a major cliffhanger, with Supergirl/Kara Zor-El (Melissa Benoist) finding a Kryptonian pod identical to those that brought her and Superman to Earth. The pod had crashed just outside of National City. The season 1 finale did not reveal the identity of the pod's occupant.
The casting of "The Vampire Diaries" alum Chris Wood was announced in July. However, apart from the initial confirmation that he will be playing a character from the DC Comics, The CW did not reveal any other details about his role.
Shortly after the announcement of Wood's casting, Bleeding Cool came out with a report saying that a "reliable source" claims that Wood will be playing Mon-El, who in the DC Comics was a Daxamite who became a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes.
At the "Supergirl" panel at last month's Comic-Con, executive producer Sarah Schechter confirmed that Wood's then-unnamed character is the occupant of the Kryptonian pod that Supergirl found at the end of season 1. The "Supergirl" boss did not, however, disclose the character's identity.
Meanwhile, it was recently announced that the upcoming season of "Supergirl" will feature a musical crossover episode with "The Flash."
"Yes, there will be a musical crossover," executive producer Greg Berlanti told the press at the TCA's press tour on Thursday, Aug. 11. "There's going to be a musical pair of episodes in the back half of the year between Supergirl and Flash."
The musical crossover is separate from the four-way crossover between "Supergirl," "The Flash," "Arrow," and "Legends of Tomorrow" scheduled for December.
"Supergirl" will air on Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW starting in fall.
