'Supernatural' season 12 spoilers: Castiel and Mary team up for an epic rescue mission
When "Supernatural" season 12 returns with episode 9, "First Blood," Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) will be off to prison, paving the way for a rescue mission by an exciting team-up.
Castiel (Misha Collins) and Mary (Samantha Smith) will join forces to get the Winchester brothers back to safety. However, this will not be the usual rescue mission that both of them are well-versed of already.
This is because it is the government that has Sam and Dean when "Supernatural" season 12 returns. That being said, the duo will not be able to do this instantly. Castiel and Mary's attempt will take long enough for fans to learn what it is like without Sam and Dean.
"We're going to be building in about a six-week time jump," executive producer Andrew Dabb told TVLine of the "Supernatural" season 12 midseason opener.
"We'll see how Sam and Dean act in that period of isolation, but also how the rest of the world reacts, as well — specifically Cas and Mary and some other players," he went on to say.
This will be something new to fans simply because as the EP teased, the mess that Sam and Dean get into in "Supernatural" season 12 is "a different kind of predicament" that the brothers entangled themselves with.
It will be interesting to see the Castiel and Mary tandem in action in "Supernatural" season 12 especially because what they are up against is actually the government.
They believe that Sam and Dean are "real, legitimate criminals, albeit kind of terrorists more than your common thief or anything like that."
This means that they will not be able to do the usual things they do to get out of trouble or prison (being behind bars is not a new affair to the brothers).
"'The monster's real. And by the way, the monster's going to come and get you, and you have to be on our side,' which is something they pulled with law enforcement in the past," Dabb said.
"Supernatural" season 12 premieres Thursday, Jan. 26, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
