'Supernatural' season 12 spoilers, updates: Rick Springfield dishes on being Lucifer; Sam, Dean fight Men of Letters
If spoilers for "Supernatural" season 12 are any indication, it looks like the upcoming installment is going to be action-packed, with brothers Dean and Sam going up against the no-nonsense Men of Letters.
In the season 11 finale, the Men of Letters captured Sam (Jared Padalecki) after Lady Toni Bevell (Elizabeth Blackmore), a member of the British group, shot him. The Men of Letters are accusing the siblings of trying to change the course of history in the supernatural world.
Apparently, the group has been keeping track of Sam and Dean's (Jensen Ackles) activities as hunters throughout the years, and now, they feel the need to step in with things seemingly getting out of control. Unlike the sibling hunters who are reckless, the Men of Letters are organized and by-the-book, which is probably why a conflict has risen between the two groups.
When "Supernatural" season 12 returns, Dean will be doing everything he can to save his brother, even channeling Liam Neeson's character in "Taken," to save him. However, according to reports, it will take a while before Dean figures out Sam is in danger because their mother Mary's (Samantha Smith) resurrection will catch Dean off-guard. On the other hand, Mary, being a hunter herself, can help get Sam back from the Men of Letters.
Meanwhile, Lucifer will be inhabiting a different body in the upcoming season. Mark Pellegrino will no longer be playing the part, and instead, rock star Rick Springfield will be taking over the reins. Lucifer is one of the biggest villains in "Supernatural," so Springfield's take on the character will be worth anticipating.
In an interview with BuddyTV, Springfield said he will play the role of a rocker dude whose body gets possessed by Lucifer after the latter escaped from the prison he was contained in.
"He's always looking for a human host to do this bad stuff to the world, and I happen to be that human host. It's really fun, well-written. And the effects are insane; the other day I spent two hours in the makeup chair getting ready for this one scene. It's really incredible stuff," Springfield said.
Spending two hours in the makeup chair could mean Springfield will be wearing prosthetics, but the musician-actor will not divulge any more details about his role.
"Supernatural" season 12 will be back on Oct. 13 at 9 p.m. on the CW.
