'Switched at Birth' season 5 news, updates: Freeform unveils new promo images from farewell season premiere
Freeform's hit drama "Switched at Birth" returns next year after a long hiatus, and a new set of promo images has been released.
In the new photos from the season premiere titled "The Call," Daphne and Bay are still in China. The duo appears to be saying goodbye to their friends before heading back home to Kansas. One of the photos even shows the two ladies getting tattoos in the back of their neck as a souvenir for their wonderful stay in the Asian country. Even though their tattoos weren't shown, there is a possibility that they got matching tattoos. Fans are also given a glimpse of Toby and Lily's wedding, with everyone all smiles for the occasion.
As previously announced, season 5 picks up with Bay and Daphne returning home from China to witness a few welcome surprises. Toby and Lily are finally getting married, but it's not long before a scandal rocks the Kennish-Vasquez clan. Regina introduces her new and much younger beau (guest star Michael Galante, "Jane the Virgin"), while Daphne and her boyfriend Mingo become targets of their black classmates when he dresses up as rapper Lil Wayne for an event in school.
Spoiler reports note that Bay and Daphne's time in China gave them the freedom and independence they need. Bay pursued her dreams of becoming a tattoo artist, while Daphne tried to support herself by working at a medical clinic. Living in a foreign country with only each other to lean on was a special moment for the two characters, since it was the first time they had to be far from their family. A mere 10 months after settling down in China, they never expected to be called by their parents to go back home.
The last new episode of "Switched at Birth" aired on Oct. 26, 2015. Following a long break, the show's upcoming season will feature its milestone 100th episode and conclude with a series finale spanning 90 minutes.
The fifth and final season of "Switched at Birth" premieres Tuesday, Jan. 31 at 9 p.m. ET on Freeform.
