Giuseppe Giudice and Teresa Giudice Prison Sentence News: Will Report to Prison January 5, 2015
Real Housewives of New Jersey stars Teresa Giudice and Giuseppe Giudice are facing a sentence of 15 months and 41 months in prison, respectively.
The husband and wife earlier pleaded not guilty for the financial and tax fraud cases filed against them, but then eventually pleaded guilty.
In a statement, Teresa said, "Today, I took responsibility for a series of mistakes I made several years ago. I have said throughout that I respect the legal process and thus I intend to address the Court directly at sentencing."
"I will describe the choices I made, continue to take responsibility for my decisions, and express my remorse to Judge Salas and the public. I am heartbroken that this is affecting my family—especially my four young daughters, who mean more to me than anything in the world. Beyond this, I do not intend to speak specifically about the case outside of court, at the recommendation of my attorney and out of deference to the Government and our legal system," she added.
Teresa has been featured on the cover of the latest issue of US Weekly. In an interview with the magazine, she said after being sentenced to serve 15 months behind bars, "I wish I could do everything differently."
"But then again, maybe not, because this is a life lesson that I need to learn and will learn, and will teach my children for the rest of my life, just as Judge (Esther) Salas told me she expected me to do," she added.
Originally facing 21 to 27 months of prison, Teresa pleaded for leniency because of the fact that she has four children, so the judge came up with a 15-month sentence instead. Teresa confessed, "I'm scared, I'm not going to deny it, I'm really scared."
Chief of the IRS Criminal Investigation Richard Weber commented about the judge's decision. "Today's sentencing marks a victory for the Real Taxpayers of New Jersey and the United States. Regardless of who we are and what we do for a living, it is everyone's responsibility to follow the same rules and pay their fair share of taxes according to the law," he said.
Teresa Giudice will report to prison on January 5, 2015, according to Forbes.
