Tesla Model 3 release date, specs news update: Model 3 to have 'Supercharger Credit,' shave off 300,000 Bpd from gasoline demand
The highly anticipated Tesla Model 3, arguably the next big thing in the electric car industry, is said to have a "Supercharger Credit" option and could take as many as 300,000 barrels of gasoline off the U.S. demand per day.
The Model 3, which Tesla says will be its first affordable mass production car, will not be coming out until late 2017. Nonetheless, an estimated 400,000 pre-order deposits have already been placed for the all-electric four-door compact luxury sedan.
The Tesla Model 3's power and range were revealed at its unveiling earlier this year, where a pre-production prototype of the automobile was showcased. Since then, Tesla has been dropping new details about the Model 3, with the actual finished product to be unveiled at another event closer to the car's launch date.
Nonetheless, rumors about certain specs of the car have also been routinely popping up. Earlier this year, Electrek reported that Tesla could be adopting a new and innovative method for Model 3 owners to pay for every Supercharger fill-up. The website revealed that a "Supercharger Credits" option was briefly on the Tesla website before it suddenly disappeared. The option was reportedly buried in the website's source code and could not be viewed in the displayed website.
Electrek noted that the code was also hidden in the Model X and the Model S sections of the Tesla website. Tesla has previously stated that "free" lifetime Supercharger access will be an option on the Model 3.
Meanwhile, a new report from Wood Mackenzie states that the release of the Tesla Model 3 will mark a significant milestone in the electric vehicle industry. The car could eliminate as many as 300,000 barrels per day from the U.S. gasoline demand by 2035, the research company's analysts say.
According to OilPrice.com, the report from Wood Mackenzie indicates that the huge demand for the Model 3 will displace a massive amount of fossil fuel-powered vehicles and will mark the entry of electric cars into the mainstream.
Tesla is expected to begin production of the Model 3 in July 2017, with the first deliveries in North America scheduled to be made before the end of next year.
