'The Big Bang Theory' season 10 news, spoilers: Showrunner reveals wedding details, talks possible cast departures
The upcoming premiere of "The Big Bang Theory" season 10 will feature the wedding of Penny (Kaley Cuoco) and Leonard (Johnny Galecki), and executive producer/showrunner Steve Molaro has all the details on the highly anticipated event.
Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter recently, Molaro broke down the upcoming wedding, saying: "It's intimate, it's small with family and friends. It's outdoors at an arboretum in Pasadena that's quite pretty and outdoors on our stage."
The "Big Bang Theory" boss also said that while there will be some weirdness amidst those who have gathered for the wedding, Penny and Leonard's love for each other will cut through all the tension.
Molaro also referred to the major cliffhanger in the season 9 finale, that of Sheldon's (Jim Parsons) mom Mary (Laurie Metcalf) and Leonard's dad Alfred (Judd Hirsch) possibly spending the night together.
The "Big Bang Theory" showrunner revealed that the season 10 premiere episode will pick up right after the events in the season 9 finale, with the gang gathering the day after Mary and Alfred disappeared. There will be some awkwardness as Beverly (Christine Baranski), Leonard's mom, feels that Alfred left to humiliate her and decides to leave. The gang will then talk her into staying as the wedding draws near.
Apart from the upcoming events in season 10, another big question on "Big Bang Theory" fans' minds is the contract status of the main cast members of the CBS sitcom. According to THR, sources claim that most of the "Big Bang Theory" stars are seeking pay raises after their contracts expire with season 10.
"All we can do right now is focus on season 10 and go script by script, which is what we would be doing anyway," Molaro said when asked about how the sitcom will proceed without some of its main cast members. "[W]e may do something differently, but until then, we're sticking to the game plan," he continued.
"I have no idea," he answered when asked about whether or not there could still be a "Big Bang Theory" without its original cast. He then added, "I think it would certainly be different and weird."
Last month, CBS Entertainment President Glenn Geller expressed his optimism about the future of "The Big Bang Theory," telling the press, "We are very confident that everyone involved wants more 'Big Bang' past year 10, and I know [producer] Warner Bros. will make those deals."
"The Big Bang Theory" season 10 premieres Monday, Sept. 19, at 8 p.m. ET before moving to its regular timeslot of Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on Oct. 27 on CBS.
