'The Blacklist: Redemption' spinoff release date, spoilers: first trailer released
The first look for the upcoming "The Blacklist" spinoff called "The Blacklist: Redemption" has been finally released by NBC.
In the trailer, three of the most dangerous criminals in Red's (James Spader) list are seen together to form a new group of elite mercenary as they try to make things right after committing a lot of crimes in the past.
The group will be composed of Liz's (Megan Boone) husband Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold), as well as his former nemesis Matias Solomon (Edi Gathegi). The group will be led by Susan "Scottie" Hargrave (Famke Janssen), known in the original series as the co-leader of the secretive military intelligence firm called Halcyon Aegis.
Tom is also expected to learn more about his past in "The Blacklist: Redemption," especially since Scottie happens to be his long-lost mother. But both of them have no idea about their connection since Scottie lost him when he was still a toddler.
"This is the biggest mission of Keen's life," executive producer Jon Bokenkamp stated in an interview with Deadline. "He doesn't know who his family was; he 'died' when he was very young," he continued.
Hargrave also mentioned in the same interview that Scottie also has no idea that she is already working with her missing son. According to the actress, Scottie was already settled with the fact that her baby was already dead.
But despite Tom's appearance in the new spinoff is not expected to affect his existence in the original series, especially since he and Liz are expected to raise their baby daughter. According to the report, the series creators originally planned to kill off Tom in "The Blacklist." But they decided to keep him in the story because he is important to the dynamics of the plot.
"The Blacklist: Redemption" premieres on NBC on Thursday, Feb. 23.
