Liz (Boone) in "The Blacklist" promo still | NBC

Midseason as it may be but "The Blacklist's" latest installment feels like a reset for Liz (Megan Boone) and Red (James Spader) after their tumultuous experience with Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen) in the first half of the year. But fans know that it is only a matter of time before they team up again and return to their investigating shenanigans.

That particular thread may get a headstart in the upcoming episode of the show titled "The Forecaster," in which Liz finds a new case left for her at her doorstep. Spoilers do not hint at anything more regarding who is involved in or what the case may be but the new mystery comes via a diorama of a crime that will soon be committed. Meanwhile, Red busies himself with a new business venture while it is interesting to know what kind of industry he is trying to tap into.

Meanwhile, series creator Jon Bokenkamp is adamant that Kirk's story is finished despite a lot of fan speculations that there might still be some juice into his narrative. And the way that the midseason finale was crafted dis not necessarily convince fans that Red's arch nemesis is indeed done for all intents and purposes.

"We have no plans to see Alexander Kirk again," the series exec stated in a spoiler roundup with TVLine. He also admitted that the Russian boss may be tied to future stories from time to time especially when there are just about a lot of theories circulating online regarding that mysterious exchange between him and Red in the midseason offering.

"That doesn't mean he won't pop up at some point, but I'd be surprised if he did," Bokenkamp coyly teases. "I don't want to say too much about the Red/Liz dynamic, but I will say that Red has a surprise in mind for Liz when we return and it is going to change her relationship with the task force."

"The Blacklist" season 4B airs every Thursday, 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
