'The Blacklist' season 4 spoilers, plot news: What drove Liz Keen to fake her death?

Megan Boone (Liz Keen) and Ryan Eggold (Tom Keen) in “The Blacklist” | NBC

The third season of the crime thriller "The Blacklist" came to an end but not without twists and surprises. While fans were delighted to see Liz Keen (Megan Boone) return after having faked her death with the intentions of escaping her past life, they are equally eager to have their questions answered in the upcoming season 4.

And while waiting for the resumption of the show, "The Blacklist" followers are but on a speculating spree.

The season 3 finale shocker was when Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen) kidnapped Liz to deliver her the news that he is actually her father and his real name is Constantine Rostova. Before that scene, it was established that Liz's father was shot and killed by Liz herself. If there is truth to what Kirk revealed, then the person shot by Liz is a mystery to be known.

On the other hand, Raymond "Red" Reddington (James Spader) knew Kirk from before which might mean that Red knew that Kirk is Liz's father. This entails the question of what impact it will bring to Liz's newfound life and to her previous working relationship with Red.

Season 4 has also yet to clarify Kirk's intentions for showing himself and confessing to being Liz's father just now. He might not be up for some peaceful reunion since he holds his supposed daughter like a hostage.

Red, whose gut has its own skill in finding people, will definitely be on a search mission for Liz whom he has always been protective of until she decided that she did not want to have anything to do with him. There are two options as to what can possibly happen, either they pick up where they left off and start working with each other again, or their working ties will be severed for good.

The members of the task force which Liz used to belong to had different reactions to her return, and to her faked death at that. According to executive producer John Eisendrath in his interview with Entertainment Weekly, a huge chunk of season 4 will be dedicated to addressing the many things that are involved in what Liz did — how she faked her death, if she felt regret doing so, and who among the task force members will feel betrayed.

Meanwhile, a spinoff series titled "The Blacklist: Redemption," which will focus on Tom Keen (Ryan Eggold), has already been officially announced by NBC.

It seems that "The Blacklist" season 4 owes a lot of answers to its fans and they will have to wait to collect these answers when the show reopens for the next season later this year on NBC.
