'The Elder Scrolls 6' release date news 2016: Still no updates from Bethesda; sequel not yet official
While "Elder Scrolls" fans are eagerly anticipating the release of "The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim" Special Edition, many are still waiting for updates about "The Elder Scrolls 6," which hasn't even been confirmed.
Though there has been much talk about another sequel in the popular "Elder Scrolls" video game franchise this year, "The Elder Scrolls 6" still only currently exists in internet rumors and gamers' wishes. Bethesda has yet to confirm an official release date or even announce that it is developing the game.
According to Digital Spy, the closest thing to a confirmation that "The Elder Scrolls 6" will be an actual video game is a comment from Bethesda's vice president of PR and marketing Pete Hines. During the "Elder Scrolls Online" launch, Hines spoke about how other video game publishers would have wanted to come out with sequels to "Skyrim" as soon as possible, saying: "They'd be spitting out a 'Skyrim 2' the year after or two years later. That's just not how we view it."
"[We] make sure everything we do is noteworthy," he added. "Our approach to that hasn't differed," Hines continued.
Earlier this year, Hines said that the next "The Elder Scrolls" installment is still "years and years away" and that he will no longer be sharing details about a possible "The Elder Scrolls 6" until it is formally launched.
"We aren't working on TES6 at the moment," he told a fan last June. Hines has also said that the sequel is still too far off in the future and that it would be impossible to announce an estimated release date.
In another exchange with a Twitter follower, Hines wrote, "I am not giving out any information about TES6 until we formally reveal it."
"Not giving any hints on their future projects," he said about the two other projects Bethesda is reportedly working on.
