'The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim' Special Edition updates and details: Console gamers are happy, PC players are unimpressed
Bethesda's release of "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" special edition was highly anticipated by fans. The game is already five years old, but players were still looking forward to an update that would give them enhanced graphics and up-to-date visuals. Oddly enough, reactions and reviews were different based on the platform the game is being played on.
IGN reviews on the game for the PS4 and Xbox One have been mostly positive, praising the game for the heightened visuals and graphics that weren't possible unless the game was played on PC. The game has also added a quicksave option in the start menu which saves players a whole lot of time. Speaking of quick, the game also loads locations faster than the 2011 version.
As for the PC reviews, however, they were not too impressed by the so-called improvements. Upgrading the game would eventually stop it from installing mods made for the original edition of the game, and the only way these can be applied is if modders were to upgrade the mods for the special edition themselves. Progress also achieved from goals that required mods would not be applied to the special edition.
Overall a common complaint is that the game doesn't feature enough new material or behind-the-scenes extras. Though "Skyrim" is considered to be one of the best RPGs, the Special Edition does little to improve upon it.
When the game came out back in 2011, it was originally given a 9.5/10 by IGN. With the special edition, the game was given 8.0/10 for the console and 7.3/10 on the PC.
"The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" Special Edition is now available for all Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
