'The Fate of the Furious' release date, latest news: Helen Mirren's role revealed
Helen Mirren's mysterious role in the upcoming movie "The Fate of the Furious" has been revealed.
Luke Evans, who played the paramilitary-trained criminal Owen Shaw in "Fast and Furious 6," sat down for an interview with Yahoo! Movies to discuss his upcoming movie, "Beauty and the Beast." At some point in the interview, the actor also answered a few questions about "The Fate of the Furious."
Evans' character was the younger brother of Jason Statham's character, Deckard Shaw. Owen was last seen in a coma in "Fast and Furious 7" after his character fell from a plane at the end of "Fast and Furious 6."
Although Evans could not say for certain whether or not he will be appearing in the eighth "Fast and Furious" film, he did say that his character has found a strong ally on his side with the addition of Mirren in the cast.
Evans revealed that Mirren will play the mother of the Shaw brothers. While Evans may or may not appear in the upcoming film, Mirren is expected to appear beside the older Shaw brother portrayed by Statham.
"He's in a military hospital because he's the most wanted man in the world, but he's got a very powerful brother, and he's now got a mum as well, who's played by Helen Mirren," Evans said.
Mirren previously confirmed his participation on "The Fate of the Furious" but also clarified that her role in the forthcoming movie will not be a major one. She also revealed that she is one of the people who won't be driving in the film.
"I wanted to be driving, but unfortunately, I'm not," the actress said.
Alongside Mirren, Charlize Theron also joined the cast of "The Fate of the Furious" as the film's main villain. She will play Cipher, an international criminal who appears to have a long history with main character Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel), and she seemingly manages to bring him over to her side and act out against his family.
"The Fate of the Furious" will be released on April 14, 2017.
