'The Flash' season 3 episode 9 spoilers: Heroes deal with new problem much worse than Flashpoint
Christmas arrives in Central City but with Alchemy and Savitar still posing as threats, Barry (Grant Gustin) and the rest of the team find it hard to get into the holiday spirit.
The upcoming episode of "The Flash" titled "The Present" serves as the midseason finale of season 3. According to the official synopsis, with Alchemy and Savitar still out there, Barry finds it hard to focus on the upcoming holiday as well as on his relationship with Iris (Candice Patton).
To find a solution to the problem, Barry heads to Earth-3 to seek the help of Jay Garrick (John Wesley Shipp). As Barry asks Jay for advice, viewers will see a familiar face as the Earth-3 version of The Trickster (Mark Hamill) will be seen in the episode.
Meanwhile, Wally (Keiynan Lonsdale) reveals that he has been training with H.R. (Tom Cavanagh) in order to help Barry fight off Savitar. However, Barry isn't too pleased upon hearing this.
Elsewhere, Cisco (Carlos Valdes) grapples with having to spend his first Christmas without his brother, Dante (Nicholas Gonzalez). Even though Flashpoint has been very tough on Cisco, it is said that his friendship with Barry will be in a good place in episode 9. This is great news, considering that they will have to be united in confronting Savitar.
The promo for the upcoming episode hints that the heroes will have to deal with a new villain that was created by Savitar. According to executive producer Andrew Kreisberg, the upcoming episode also creates a new problem for the team and it could be much worse than Flashpoint.
"The midseason finale, episode 9, kind of creates a new problem for our heroes that they weren't anticipating, something that they've never faced before," Kreisberg revealed during a recent screening with the press, as reported by IGN. "It's so big, we're actually considering changing the saga sell from talking about Flashpoint to talking about that, because that's really what's driving the episodes for the rest of the season, actually. Flashpoint won't loom as large as the challenge that presents itself in [episode 9]."
Season 3 of "The Flash" airs every Tuesday at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
