'The Fosters' season 5 renewal announced by Freeform
Freeform officially announced the season 5 renewal for "The Fosters" before the family drama returns for the second half of season 4.
The series is known for its groundbreaking portrayal of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) and biracial family themes, which earned multiple recognitions from different award-giving bodies like the GLAAD Media Awards and the TCA Awards.
"The Fosters" centers on the story of a mixed-race family led by a lesbian couple Lena (Sherri Saum) and Stef (Teri Polo). The series is created by Peter Paige and Bradley Bredeweg.
The second half of season 4 will air on Tuesday, Jan. 31, with the episode titled "Insult to Injury." According to the synopsis that was posted on The Futon Critic, "In the aftermath of Jesus' (Noah Centineo) fight with Nick (Louis Hunter) over Mariana (Cierra Ramirez), Jesus is knocked out. On the way to the hospital, things take a turn for the worse, leaving him fighting for his life. Meanwhile, Callie (Maia Mitchell) finds herself in a dangerous situation after taking a ride with Troy (Levi Fiehler) and Mariana is guilt-ridden over the fact that her actions led to Jesus' current condition."
Based on the trailer for the midseason premiere, Jesus will suffer from seizures as the ambulance transports him to the hospital. Callie, on the other hand, will have her own scare as Troy dangerously drives her to an unknown location.
The announcement for the season 5 renewal of "The Foster" comes alongside the season 2 renewal of "Happily Ever After?" The network also revealed that they will extend "The Bachelor" after its current season.
Freeform also announced that they have picked up the new series titled "The Bold Type," which centers on the life of Hearst Magazines' chief content officer named Joanna Coles. The cast includes "Faking It" alum Katie Stevens, "Chasing Life" star Aisha Dee and "Transparent" star Melora Hardin. The series will begin in summer 2017.
