Alicia Florrick's (Julianna Margulies) story may have reached its conclusion in the series finale of CBS' Emmy-winning "The Good Wife," but the character could return to the small screen in the show's upcoming and as-yet-untitled spinoff.

"I think there are stories to be told like what happens after [the series finale] and, indeed, Julianna might very well appear as Alicia Florrick in the courtroom with Diane," "The Good Wife" alum Christine Baranski, whose Diane Lockhart is one of two lead characters in the spinoff, recently told The Hollywood Reporter. "We don't know, but it's all an open possibility, which I think is exciting."

The actress added that what makes the spinoff an even more exciting project is that there is already an audience who knows and loves the characters who will be re-introduced in the spinoff and who are familiar with the writing style in "The Good Wife."

Baranski will be joined in the spinoff by fellow "The Good Wife" alum Cush Jumbo, who played Lucca Quinn in the legal/political drama. The spinoff is set a year after the events in the final episode of "The Good Wife," in which Alicia committed a stunning betrayal of Diane and Diane's husband Kurt (Gary Cole) for the sake of her husband Peter (Chris Noth). The series ended with Diane and Alicia's friendship and professional relationship dissolving, with Diane slapping Alicia in an emotionally charged scene.

In an interview with E! News in June, "The Good Wife" co-creators and co-executive producers Michelle and Robert King spoke about the upcoming spinoff. According to Michelle, one of the challenges of the new series is balancing the new characters with the ones from "The Good Wife," who fans have come to love.

"That's the thing, could you really pass that up?" Ron said about casting Baranski and Jumbo in the spinoff. "Christine Baranski and Cush Jumbo and hopefully we'll get some faces you'll recognize, but we really also want it to be about new faces too," he added.

When asked about the title for the "Good Wife" spinoff, Baranski said with a laugh, "No, no, there were jokes about 'The Better Wife,' but that's not an actual suggestion."

"The Good Wife" spinoff premieres in early 2017 on CBS All Access.
