'The Last of Us 2' release date news update: Game could be released in 2018 or 2021
Fans have speculated that development of "The Last of Us 2" was put on hold because Naughty Dog was working on "Uncharted 4." However, it's been a while since "Uncharted" has been released, and fans are already waiting for news on the follow-up to "The Last of Us."
OfficialBrosCode on Youtube reported that "The Last of Us 2" will have a 5-year time jump, making Ellie 19 years old in the upcoming game. Other art features her in winter clothing and an icy setting in the background, so fans can expect that there will be a level similar to the snowy locations in the first game.
The game is also said to focus on a more seasoned and violent Ellie, as she has been taught by Joel how to survive in the harsh climate and societies of "The Last of Us."
The leak actually came from a magazine that was supposed to publish the story around the time of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), but since Naughty Dog postponed their announcement on the game, the article was also pulled out.
It was reported that the game would be released in 2018 for the Playstation 4 and the Playstation 4 Pro. If the 2018 release proves to be true, that would make the 5-year time jump occurring in real time as "The Last of Us" was released in 2013.
Other reports, however, say that "The Last of Us 2" will most likely see a release in 2021. That would mean a massive wait for "The Last of Us" fans, but seeing that concept art has already been leaked for the game, the five-year waiting period could turn out to be a hoax.
Will the game find it's way to fans in 2018, or will they see "The Last of Us 2" released in 2021 instead? Stay tuned.
