There are no confirmed reports as of today regarding the highly anticipated game sequel to 2013's hit post-apocalyptic action video game, "The Last of Us." Naughty Dog has kept their lips tight to reveal details confirming the development of "The Last of Us 2," but they also kept the doors open for the continuation of the story. So far, it is expected that the game sequel will not be released anytime soon as the game developer has just started to work on "The Last of Us 2." It is rumored that the game will arrive by 2018.

The possible plotline of "The Last of Us 2" is all up in the air, but the rumors are rife that the sequel will only feature one main protagonist instead of two. In "The Last of Us," the players get to know Ellie and Joel, two human survivors who seek shelter in a world plagued with anarchy and contaminated with a killer epidemic. This time around, it appears that the fans will only get to see Ellie as Joel will end up dead before the events of the upcoming sequel transpire.

As reported by Yibada, the latest plot rumors for "The Last of Us 2" suggest that Ellie will end up killing Joel as she finally learns the horrible actions of the latter in the first game title. To recall, Joel is responsible for killing the remaining members of the Fireflies organization, and by the time Ellie knows the truth, she might make a move out of anger that will put Joel's life in danger. Ater all, Ellie has already found a connection between her and the group as she promised to help the Fireflies to find a cure for the deadly virus.

Moreover, the epilogue scene of the recently concluded "Uncharted 4" shows a poster of a young pregnant woman with a gas mask. Many gamers recognize the pregnant woman as Ellie, and the striking caption of the said poster is like teasing the public that "The Last of Us 2" is indeed coming.
