Naughty Dog has yet to confirm the existence of "The Last of Us 2," but despite the lack of updates, rumors about the action-adventure video game continue to surface online.

According to rumors, "The Last of Us 2" will arrive sometime in 2018. Word even has it that the story will feature a time-jump. In an interview with South Carolina's The Frame 89.3 (via Segment Next), game director Neil Druckmann revealed that Naughty Dog is focusing on a new story involving time-jumps.

Just like "Quantum Break," the story will involve characters who can travel through time to change the events of the past. While Druckmann didn't specifically mention that this plot is part of "The Last of Us 2," some people took it as a hint that this new story may have something to do with the horror-survival game. Then again, this is only a speculation and Naughty Dog has yet to officially give its confirmation.

It was also widely speculated that Joel and Ellie's story will continue in the sequel. It remains to be seen what happens if Ellie finds out Joel had lied to her. It can be recalled in "The Last of Us" that Ellie found out from the Fireflies that she holds the key to finding the cure for the virus that wiped out civilization.

The young lady was supposed to offer herself as a sacrifice so the organization can perform an experiment on her and find the cure. However, Joel opposes of this especially when he learns from Fireflies leader Marlene that Ellie could die from the operation. Joel then abducted Ellie, ultimately saving her life, and lied to her that the organization decided to stop looking for a cure. According to speculations, Ellie will eventually find out about Joel's lies and she'll be so mad she'd kill him.

The abovementioned storylines would be interesting for fans who have been waiting for a sequel, but it should be noted that they are only theories and should be taken with a grain of salt.
