'The Legend of the Blue Sea' episode 14 postponed news update: special episode to air in lieu of regular programming

Instead of airing the 14th episode of "The Legend of the Blue Sea," SBS postponed the regular screening of the popular Korean fantasy romance drama to air a special episode that will delve deeper into the relationship between Shim Chung (Jun Ji-hyun) and Heo Joon-jae (Lee Min-ho).

Soompi posted a statement from a source connected with the drama division of SBS, saying that the special episode will have a movie-like format. "We've created a special episode that will summarize the first half of the drama so that viewers can enjoy it like a movie before the second half of the drama kicks off," the source stated. "The staff will do their best for the remainder of the drama to create a top-notch production every episode."

This means that the network has to postpone the airing of episode 14 to give way to the special episode that aired on Thursday, Dec. 29. The regular episode, on the other hand, is slated to air on Jan. 4.

Meanwhile, there are also reports claiming that there will be a major development happening between Heo Jun Jae's relationship with his step-brother Heo Chi Hyun (Lee Ji Hoon) and his biological father Heo Gil-joong (Choi Jung-woo). This could mean that viewers of the show will learn more about the strained relationship between the charming con-man and his family.

Shim Chung's life, on the other hand, might be in danger in the upcoming episode as the mermaid continue to adjust to her human form. The threat might come from Ma Dae-young (Sung Dong-il).

Other speculations claim that the remaining episodes of "The Legend of the Blue Sea" will feature the deeper connections between the present lives of the show's major characters to their past lives.

"The Legend of the Blue Sea" earned multiple nominations from the annual SBS Drama Awards for 2016, including the Grand Prize (Daesang) for actress Jun Ji-hyun and the K-Wave Star Award for both Jun Ji-hyun and Lee Min-ho. The pair is also nominated for the Best Couple award. The winners for this year's SBS Drama Award is expected to be announced in Dec. 31.
