'The Librarians' season 3 spoilers: Character will die in current season; EP says Flynn will have 'very personal' arc

"The Librarians" season 3 will see the death of a character as the fantasy/adventure takes on the theme of good vs evil.

The new season premiered on Sunday, Nov. 20, on TNT. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, "The Librarians" executive producer Dean Devlin said that season 3 is a bit darker than usual, much like the similarly titled film series on which the show is based.

"Over the course of this season, we'll lose a character," he revealed. "That's all I can tell you." According to Devlin, the decision to kill off a beloved member of the "Librarians" family wasn't something they started with but was reached as the new season was being developed and the writers realized that the character had to leave the series.

But while a main character is leaving, "The Librarians" season 3 will also introduce a couple of new faces. Devlin confirmed that "The Strain" alum Sean Astin and "Supernatural" grad Felicia Day will join the current season as guest stars. It is unclear how many episodes Astin and Day will be in.

Devlin also revealed that the new season will find Flynn (Noah Wyle), who will be in seven out of 10 episodes, going off on his own missions. "He has a very personal arc that happens for him that tears him away from our group for a bit," the "Librarians" boss said. "That's going to make him emotionally separate to a certain degree, because what he has to do, the others can't know about," he added.

Wyle, who also helmed two season 3 episodes and wrote one, recently confirmed that he penned episode 6 and that it was "way better than [he] expected."

Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Wyle said that the episode, titled "The Librarians and the Trial of the Triangle," will find the group going off on a mission to find a relic that plays an important role in the season.

In the episode, Flynn will reportedly aact distant and the team will have a "come-to-Jesus talk." Wyle said that it will be a big learning experience for Flynn. "He comes out the other side with a very different attitude," the actor said.

"The Librarians" season 3 airs Sundays at 8 p.m. EST on TNT.
