'The Man in the High Castle' season 2 news: Stephen Root joins cast to play titular role
Amazon finally reveals the actor who will play the man in the upcoming season of "The Man in the High Castle."
In a special teaser, Amazon revealed yesterday that Stephen Root has been tapped to portray the titular role in the TV adaptation of Philip K. Dick's alt-history novel, "The Man in the High Castle." The veteran actor plays the mysterious figure who is connected to the resistance movement and who is responsible for collecting various enigmatic films featuring alternate realities. These films are the ones that the Nazis and Japanese want to search and destroy.
Aside from playing Milton in the cult classic "Office Space," Root is known for his roles in notable feature films including "Selma," "Trumbo," and "Finding Dory." His most recent TV acting stints include "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" and "Turn." Root also did voice roles in "Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness" and "Gravity Falls."
Season 2 kicks off with the escalating political tension between Japan and Germany. After betraying the Resistance, Juliana Crain (Alexa Davalos) must face the repercussions of her decision to allow suspected Nazi agent Joe Blake (Luke Kleintank) to flee the Pacific States with a film meant to be given to the Man in the High Castle.
As a result, Joe comes back as a hero to the Reich. Unfortunately, he finds himself forced into Berlin, the Nazi capital, where he comes face to face with his father who abandoned him when he was young. After seeing pictures of his own execution in the mysterious films, Frank Frink (Rupert Evans) becomes drawn further into the resistance and becomes more radicalized.
Also starring in the upcoming sophomore season of Amazon's hit series are Callum Keith Rennie, DJ Qualls, Rufus Sewell, Brennan Brown, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa, Bella Heathcote, and Joel de la Fuente.
"The Man in the High Castle" season 2 premieres on Friday, Dec. 16, on Amazon Prime.
