The production for "Death Cure" was previously postponed, but it is scheduled to resume next month. Meanwhile, the title is supposedly the last of the "The Maze Runner" trilogy, but the two prequel novels that recently came out might also be adapted into films.

"The Maze Runner: Death Cure" was originally set to premiere in February this yea,r but unfortunately, the lead star who plays Thomas — Dylan O'Brien — got into an accident that injured his cheekbone or orbital socket during a stunt scene last March, according to Deadline

Filming was postponed and was initially set to resume in May last year, but O'Brien needed more time to recover from his injuries. The premiere date of "Death Cure" has then been moved to January of next year, while filming is scheduled to resume this February.

"The Maze Runner: Death Cure" will feature Thomas in search for the cure to the deadly disease known as the Flare. It is the last of the franchise's trilogy of films, but there are speculations that the two previously released prequel novels of "Maze Runner," written by James Dashner, will also be adapted onto the big screen.

"The Kill Order" that was released in 2012 is set 13 years before the events of the first "Maze Runner" novel when the world was first hit by solar flares. The setting is in New York City, and the book follows an entirely different group of characters led by flare survivors Mark and Trina, and war veterans, Alec and Lana.

"The Fever Code" is set just before "The Maze Runner," and it introduces Thomas when he first became part of WICKED at the age of five and when he went by the name Stephen. This is also where Thomas first meets Newt (Thomas Brody-Sangster), Minho (Ki Hong Lee), Alby (Aml Ameen), and Teresa (Kaya Scodelario).

Directed by Wes Ball, "The Maze Runner: Death Cure" is set to premiere on Jan. 12, 2018.
