The upcoming "The Mindy Project" season 5 could mark a turning point in Mindy (Mindy Kaling) and Danny's (Chris Messina) relationship.

In the trailer for the new season's premiere episode, Mindy knocks on Danny's door with a wedding invitation in her hand. As it turns out, Danny, with whom Mindy has a son, Leo, is getting married to Sarah (Greta Gerwig), a nurse at his new practice.

However, Mindy manages to make it through the awkward encounter and moves on by pursuing some new potential romances.

"I'm very attracted to you," she tells a possible love interest in the trailer. "You're tall and rugged and handsome like a lumberjack in a porno."

Another romantic interest will reportedly be an English stage actor.

Earlier this month, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that "Smash" grad Jack Davenport has landed a guest role in the upcoming "The Mindy Project" season 5. Davenport will reportedly play the role of Leland Breakfast, who has a dubious reputation as the "bad boy of the West End."

Davenport joins fellow guest stars Bryan Greenberg, Rebecca Rittenhouse, and Nasim Pedrad in season 5.

Meanwhile, "The Mindy Project" has been acquired by VH1 and Freeform in syndication.

"We are pleased that VH1 and Freeform recognize the value of 'The Mindy Project' for their viewers," Frances Manfredi, NBCUniversal Television and New Media Distribution president, said in a statement. "VH1 and Freeform are great partners and 'The Mindy Project' will be a great addition to their strong programming," he added.

Under the deal, VH1 and Freeform both have rights to the sitcom's first four seasons. Hulu, which acquired "The Mindy Project" after it aired its first three years on FOX, will retain in-season stacking rights to the sitcom. VH1 and Freeform will acquire the new episodes a year after they debut. Both networks will begin airing repeats of the show's first four seasons next month.

"The Mindy Project" season 5 will debut on Hulu on Oct. 4.
