'The Originals' season 3 finale spoilers, plot news: Rebekah Mikaelson returns; season 4 possibilities explored
Rebekah Mikaelson (Claire Holt) returns in the season 3 finale to stand between her erstwhile love interest Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) and her brother Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and save the latter.
According to The EW, some thousands of years ago it was Rebekah, the "original" Mikaelson sister who promised to stand by and protect her brothers "always and forever." And now in the season 3 finale episode of "The Originals," she will come back into her family's life to try and protect her brothers from her former lover's wrath.
It can be remembered that Rebekah was first introduced in a warehouse in Chicago in the third season of "The Vampire Diaries."
The dreaded prophecy that predicts the Mikaelson family's death has been hovering over the siblings throughout the duration of "The Originals" season 3, and followers of the show are hanging on for the revelation about the fulfillment of this vision. Instead of a stake or bullet, it turns out that the powerful "weapon" intended to defeat and end the lives of the Mikaelsons is the creation of an atrocious super-Original in the persona of Marcel. This then leaves the question of which Mikaelson will meet his demise or if they are all fated to escape the prophecy alive.
Meanwhile, "The Vampire Diaries" spinoff has been renewed by the CW for another season. And even if the season 3 finale has yet to air, fans are already speculating the possible storylines to be explored in the following season.
One angle with the potential for greater expansion is Caroline Forbes' (Candice Accola-King) crossover. Caroline and Klaus were an item before and a revival of their love affair seems to spark excitement from viewers. Apart from this, other crossovers are expected to take place in season 4.
In an interview with TV Line, executive producer Julie Plec said of potential crossovers: "It's a rare luxury to have two shows in a shared universe that you could do that. So to not do it feels like we're missing a really fun creative opportunity, a way to celebrate both shows." Plec explained further that crossovers need not be huge or happen too much in massive way but that it will be fun to find small, organic ways to do them.
Moreover, rumor mills think that Cami (Leah Pipes) and Davina (Danielle Campbell) might not really be dead or if they are, they will still likely make appearances in flashback scenes.
Fans are also to find out if Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Hayley's (Phoebe Tonkin) strong connection can lead them to realize equally strong feelings toward each other.
"The Originals" will air its season 3 finale on Friday, May 20 at 9 p.m. EDT on The CW, while its season 4 is expected to premiere this fall.
