'The Originals' season 4 premiere date, spoilers: The CW boss explains why series hasn't been renewed yet; what's next for 'Haylijah?'
Despite the five-year time jump, Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) and Elijah (Daniel Gillies) are going to pick up where they left off when "The Originals" premieres its fourth season.
Season 3 left off with Hayley and Elijah being separated, leading some fans to speculate if the two will ever have a future as a couple. Viewers worry that Hayley might meet a new love interest. But thankfully, showrunner Julie Plec recently shared details on how the upcoming season will play out for the star-crossed lovers. It turns out that a relationship is still waiting for Elijah when he comes home.
"When we come back, obviously all of our heroes are still down. In fact, it's Hayley's role to figure out a way to deliver on her promise to rescue them," Plec teased. "[When] Elijah does return to the fold, he's thrown back into a relationship that he's been absent from, a brother that's been captive and had god knows what done to him over the last half a decade, and a crumbling Mikaelson dynasty in New Orleans that he feels very compelled to rebuild," the showrunner added.
Of course, that's not to say that things between the two will not be complicated. After all, a five-year separation is not that easy, but at least, there's hope for "Haylijah" fans.
On another note, The CW went on a renewal spree over the weekend when it ordered additional seasons for a number of its top-rating shows. One of the programs that didn't get a renewal order is "The Originals."
Despite the lack of an early season 5 pickup, fans shouldn't worry about the show's fate just yet. The CW President Mark Pedowitz said in an interview that "The Originals'" fate remains up in the air because they still have to see the show's performance once it returns to the airwaves. He mentioned that he already spoke to Plec about the renewal, and they will start discussions about it in May. As a huge fan of Plec and her work, Pedowitz shared that he's "hoping 'The Originals' will continue."
The fourth season of "The Originals" premieres on Friday, March 17, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
