'The Originals' season 4 spoilers, release date: Season to be final?
The production for "The Originals" season 4 is well underway, but if the latest rumors are to be believed, it will be the show's last run.
It is being rumored that "The Vampire Diaries" spinoff will meet its end after the upcoming season just like its parent series, whose final season is currently on the air.
"The Originals" is reportedly not raking enough viewership and ratings to keep itself alive and that season 4 could be used to properly wrap up the story.
The CW is allegedly setting up the show's cancellation by giving the upcoming seasons only 13 episodes instead of the usual 22 and moving the series to midseason as opposed to its usual fall schedule.
The schedule move, however, was explained by The CW president Mark Pedowitz in a conference call a few months back, assuring fans it is not a death sentence.
"We have a very strong schedule. We still believe quite a bit in The Originals. We only have 10 hours, so we made a choice to [hold it] to further boost our schedule at midseason," he stated as quoted by TVLine.
From his statement, it can be understood that "The Originals" season 4 was moved to a new schedule where it can show domination. After all, the fall schedule is pack with some of the network's biggest including "Arrow," "The Flash" and the newly acquired "Supergirl."
With all that said, "The Originals" season 4 may not be the end for the show after all. Ratings-wise, however, it will have to do well to keep its foothold.
"The Originals" season 4 will follow the Mikaelsons in their efforts to stop Marcel (Charles Michael Davis) for good as his plot for revenge led Klaus (Joseph Morgan) incarcerated by his surrogate son and the rest of the clan in hiding in another dimension.
The new season will begin five years after the events of the previous season, which means that baby Hope will be all grown up.
"The Originals" season 4 will premiere January 2017 on The CW.
