'The Originals' Winter Finale Recap, Plot Spoilers: Esther Turns Into A Vampire
"The Originals" gifted fans with some exciting twists as the winter season finale aired last Monday, Dec. 8, at 8 p.m. EST on the CW.
The synopsis for the episode read: "Rebekah notices an unusual change in Elijah's behavior, and meets Klaus and Haley at a safe house where they are reunited with baby Hope. Meanwhile, Kaleb sheds light on a spell he created in 1914; Cami learns Esther's plan will put her life in danger; and Esther makes an unlikely alliance that could prove to be dangerous for Klaus."
The winter finale came in full swing and ended with a cliffhanger. Klaus (Joseph Morgan) turned Esther (Natalie Dreyfuss) into a vampire as a punishment. Esther had to face the consequences of the destructive decisions she made for her children. In a collaborative effort from the Original siblings, they took down their mother. However, Klaus wasn't the only one seeking revenge after all. Kol (Nathaniel Buzolic) was also seeking revenge on Rebekah (Claire Holt).
In their collaborative effort to take Esther down, Elijah (Daniel Gillies), Klaus, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), Davina (Danielle Campbell), Cami (Leah Pipes) and Kol used Rebekah as bait. Rebekah volunteered for the job, and they succeeded in their scheme. Rebekah's blood was in a glass of wine but Esther was not aware of it. While Esther drank the wine, Klaus stabbed Esther, killing her with the vampire blood already in her system. Esther ended up choosing between eternal life or death.
Ultimately, Esther ended up being a vampire herself — the same choice she forced upon her children which she hated the most.
