'The Strain' season 3 episode 8 spoilers: When everybody's plans backfire

"We have to be more creative." Professor Abraham Setrakian (David Bradley) is looking at the war against the Master in a different way in the third season of FX's horror series, "The Strain." | YouTube/The Strain

It looks like Setrakian (David Bradley) and Palmer (Jonathan Hyde) are officially in business now that they've made their first exchange, but will the ailing Stoneheart CEO really hold up to his end of the bargain?

Also, Eph (Corey Stoll) and Dutch (Ruta Gedmintas) have found a breakthrough in their research, but their discovery may put their very lives at risk.

In this week's episode of "The Strain" titled "Collaborators," Palmer's new head of security, Duncan (Dwain Murphy) reported the arrival of an Egyptian vessel with the CEO's signature on it. Palmer knew nothing about it and when he looked into it further, his curiosity led to a confrontation with the Master's loyal emissary, Eichhorst (Richard Sammel).

Eichorst told him not to overestimate his worth. It was perhaps the last straw he needed to finally jump the fence and side with Setrakian with whom he later shared the information about the vessel in exchange for a dose of the white.

But now that Palmer's back on his feet again, albeit for a limited time, will he finally be able to move around enough to find out who the Master's new vessel is? Or will this newfound strength incite him to launch his own retaliation, or worse, flee?

Elsewhere, Eph and Dutch, with help from Quinlan (Rupert Penry-Jones), managed to retrieve the black box from Regis Air Flight 753, the plane that the Master took over in the series pilot.

The preview for episode 8 titled, "White Light" showed that just as they expected, the black box managed to record the signal that the Master used to terrorize and infect the 210 people onboard. The signal, however, may prove to be too strong, perhaps even fatal, for human ears to take. Given how it incapacitated everyone on board Regis Air, will it not have the same effect on Eph and Dutch?

Setrakian and Fet (Kevin Durand) had also been hard at work in building the casket they would use to trap the Master in. However, the information about the Egyptian vessel would take them on a little side quest to find out just what the mysterious ship carried to New York. Quinlan also makes his own move by striking a deal with the Ancients, which may not turn out quite as he planned.

Then, there is still the mystery of what the Master's plans are for Eph's son, Zach (Max Charles). Could his plan coincide with rumors that Zach may well turn out to be his new vessel?

"The Strain" season 3 episode 8 airs on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 10 p.m. EDT on FX.
