Although it will be reportedly shorter than the first two seasons, "The Strain" season 3 will see paranoia over the outbreak reaching every corner of the globe and chaos ensuing on a worldwide scale.

"The Strain" executive producer Carlton Cuse has confirmed that season 3 will only be 10 episodes long, down three episodes from the show's first two 13-episode runs. And while this may come off as bad news for "The Strain" fans, Entertainment Weekly pointed out that this is actually a good thing, allowing the show to cut out fillers and make the story more fast-paced and intense.

The horror drama series, which was created by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan based on their best-selling "The Strain" novel trilogy, ended its sophomore season with a variety of cliffhangers and each of the main characters receiving a personal blow.

The new season will reportedly kick off in New York City, which will be the setting for an all-out war between humans and strigoi. In season 3, the Master (Jack Kesy) is said to be carrying out an irreversible plot to wipe out humanity.

According to the season 3 synopsis, as they struggle to deal with the outbreak, each of the main characters will be beset by personal issues and the group will be on the verge of falling apart.

Will the humans be able to pull it together in time to save the city and all of humanity?

Meanwhile, the new trailer for season 3 shows that "paranoia has reached every corner of the globe." While Palmer (Jonathan Hyde) was limiting the flow of information in the first two seasons and many seemed oblivious to what was happening, it now appears that season 3 will see a global awareness of the vampire outbreak.

After the series was renewed for a third season in 2015, FX's Eric Schrier released a statement, saying: "Guillermo [Del Toro] and Carlton [Cuse] have delivered two thrilling seasons of 'The Strain' that are captivating and visually arresting, doing justice to the original novel trilogy and meeting fans' high expectations in the process. We're excited to see them carry this powerful story into a third season on FX."

"The Strain" season 3 debuts on Aug. 28 on FX.
