'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 spoilers: Uninvited guests crash Stefan and Caroline's Christmas dinner
While the holiday season is a time for merriment and festivity, the Mystic Falls gang will find it hard to celebrate in the midseason finale of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.
The upcoming episode titled "The Next Time I Hurt Somebody, It Could Be You" not only serves as the winter finale but also acts as the supernatural drama's Christmas episode.
According to the synopsis, Stefan (Paul Wesley) is determined to have a nice Christmas Eve with Caroline (Candice King) despite facing fallout from his interaction with Cade (Wolé Parks). However, when Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Sybil (Nathalie Kelley) crash the dinner that is also attended by Alaric (Matt Davis), Matt (Zach Roerig) and Peter (Joel Gretsch), things quickly take a dark and twisted turn.
In a series of flashbacks, viewers will also see Stefan being enticed by Cade with his mysterious agenda. This leaves the former faced with an unimaginable decision.
The promo for the episode previews some of the hijinks that will ensue during Stefan and Caroline's dysfunctional family dinner. While Stefan and Caroline want nothing more than to celebrate a Christmas tradition like normal people, Damon and his date's arrival dampens their spirits.
"Huh; Damon's alive, and Stefan's dead! Merry Christmas, I've got gifts," Caroline says, before chugging a bottle of champagne.
In an interview with TVLine, King also revealed more details about the series' midseason finale.
"You're going to get a lot of answers to questions you've had for a while, and we, of course, pose more questions. You'll learn a lot about Matt's dad, and the history of [the Donovan] family in Mystic Falls. You'll also see Damon and Stefan, and what happens next for them," she teased.
The actress also revealed that when "The Vampire Diaries" returns in January 2017, there will be a time jump. However, King did not specify how long it will be.
Season 8 of "The Vampire Diaries" airs every Friday at 8 p.m. EST on The CW.
