Class is in session when The CW's hit supernatural drama "The Vampire Diaries" returns for the back half of season 8.

Titled "We Have History Together," the show's winter premiere will see the Salvatore brothers go after a new target. According to the official synopsis, Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) attend an anger management support group in an effort to find their latest victim.

Sybil (guest star Nathalie Kelley) is still alive and is working as a teacher for a group of high school students. She eventually uses them as leverage to force Caroline (Candice King) to locate a historical artifact that might be used against her. Later in the episode, Stefan and Damon must honor their commitment to Cade. They will also attempt to test the morals of a young doctor named Tara (guest star Alexandra Chando).

On another note, it seems that another major character is about to be killed off shortly after Tyler Lockwood's (Michael Trevino) unexpected death. When asked about who's leaving the series a bit early, showrunner Julie Plec declined to reveal the mystery character. However, she described the impending death as "painful" and "terrible." As for Stefan, viewers can expect more complications after he and Damon volunteered to work for the other side.

"Stefan's never been good with temptation while in ripper mode," Plec continued. "We know from past experience that Stefan has a threshold, and it'll be Damon's job to monitor his brother and make sure he stays on the good side of that threshold. If he crosses it, there's a risk of losing him forever," she went on to say.

In a previous interview, Somerhalder and Wesley mentioned that if it were up to them, they'd rather have Stefan and Damon die together in the end.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 returns on Friday, Jan. 13, at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
