'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 finale spoilers, news: Salvatore brothers to face the one that started it all
On the series finale of "The Vampire Diaries," Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder) will finally face the one person that is the root of all their problems — Katherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev). Meanwhile, Elena (Nina Dobrev) will be saying goodbye to one of her beloved people forever.
"The Vampire Diaries" is sadly coming to its final episode this Friday on The CW. The show that ran 8 seasons will be capping off with the current season's 16th episode, titled "I Was Feeling Epic," which will feature the Salvatore brothers facing the one person that got them into a lifetime of a mess, who is also the one that turned them into vampires — Katherine.
"With the fate of Mystic Falls at stake, Stefan and Damon must fight their greatest enemy for one last battle," the finale's listing on The Futon Critic reads.
However, it seems that Katherine will not be the only one vanquished forever, as Entertainment Weekly reports that Elena will be mourning after the big fight.
According to Samantha Highfill who came on set during "The Vampire Diaries" filming of the final episode, Elena will be crying over the death of someone in the Mystic Falls cemetery.
Highfill teased that there will be several characters who will return for the series finale, but fans will have to wait until the premiere to see who these returning characters are.
Fans will not be the only ones to shed a tear at the series finale, as Highfill shared that the cast lost all laughs and excitement when executive producer Julie Plec signaled the beginning of the last episode's shoot.
"We wanted to go big, emotionally, with the action, and with the spectacular of it. We were absolutely feeling epic," Plec explained.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 8's finale episode airs on Friday, March 10, at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
