'The Vampire Diaries' season 8 spoilers: Nina Dobrev returning, picking Stefan over Damon?
Nina Dobrev fans will be delighted to find out that the much-rumored and highly anticipated comeback of the actress in "The Vampire Diaries" is finally confirmed. Unexpectedly though, Dobrev's Elena may not be returning for Damon (Ian Somerhalder) to fulfill a wondrous "Delena" reunion. She may be coming back for Stefan (Paul Wesley), as a report suggests.
The romance between Stefan and Caroline (Candice King) has been blooming of late, as Wesley confirmed.
"In a weird way, his main focus is Caroline. That's sort of been his M.O. lately."
He added that everything Stefan does now revolves around Caroline. Despite this though, anything can still happen.
In an interview with TV Line, the actor noted that all it takes is one shift in writing.
"All it takes is one intelligently shifted moment or new storyline to sort of diverge and —boom! — we're back on the Stefan and Elena train," he said.
The actor pointed out that he does not really know what the show's writers are up to, so "Stelena" may also be possible in the next run of the show. Elena's return could very well be the end of "Steroline."
However, other speculations have it that Dobrev may be coming back as a completely new character in the series. It is even possible that she may be the next villain in "The Vampire Diaries" season 8.
Whatever the role may be, it remains that she will be returning to the show and that this could possibly infuse some much needed hurrah that, as some believe, her departure at the close of the sixth season took away with her.
Julie Plec, the "TVD" showrunner, revealed that Dobrev's return will be somewhere toward the close of "The Vampire Diaries" season 8. Some fans though still have apprehensions that something may come in the way of Dobrev's return especially when the actress' absence was very glaring at a recent gathering that Plec put together for the show's cast.
Another source of concern is that her return could mean Somerhalder leaving the show. It can be recalled that Dobrev and Somerhalder, who had been romantically linked at the beginning of the show, had parted ways, and their break up had been the subject of rumors which held that Dobrev's departure from the show was due to the said break up.
"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will debut on Oct. 21.
