'The Voice' season 11 news 2016: Miley Cyrus, Alicia Keys join the panel of judges
In "The Voice" season 11, Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys will be taking the panel seats previously occupied by Christina Aguilera and Pharrell Williams who both took an exit from the show after the tenth season. Cyrus and Keys will judge alongside original coaches Adam Levine and Blake Shelton who have been in presence in every season of the contest.
According to Deadline, NBC Entertainment's President for Alternative and Late Night Programming Paul Telegdy referred to Cyrus and Keys as "incredibly talented women," adding that their musical expertise and energy to be shared in the show will be remarkable. Telegdy also expressed the network's excitement over the two new additions to the "magical" 11th season of "The Voice."
A singer, composer, actress and charity sponsor, Cyrus has just come out fresh from being an advisor in the tenth season of "The Voice" and will transition to being a coach in the upcoming season. Alongside Gwen Stefani, the Disney Channel alumna served as an advisor for all teams during the Knockouts rounds.
An insider of The Hollywood Life reportedly said that "The Voice" co-executive producer Mark Burnett feels that Cyrus will spark interest in singers cutting across categories of the young, the old and the quirky, which may have never been the case before. The source added that according to Burnett, Cyrus will bring in an amazing element to what "The Voice" already offers. The site also wrote that the show's producers liked her so much as an advisor that they ended up offering her the role of a judge.
Meanwhile, Alicia Keys, another multi-hyphenate Grammy award-winning performer, has been picked to judge in the competition because she "has that R&B background that covers the other musical genres" and additionally, she "appeals to the soulful audience nicely" which will especially complement Williams' absence. The Hollywood Life wrote in a separate article that according to a source, the producers of "The Voice" wanted a fair panel with a second female judge besides Cyrus so there will be a total of two men and two women coaches.
This upcoming season will be the first time for "The Voice" to see more than one female coach.
Reports say that "The Voice" season 11 will premiere in September this year. Names of contestants have not yet been released but blind auditions are already underway.
